Capturing new education models among Indigenous and Quilombola minorities in Brazil

The Centre for Minorities Research (CMR) is pleased to announce a collaborative research project entitled ‘Capturing new education models among Indigenous and Quilombola minorities in Brazil’.

The project is a collaboration between CMR (University of St Andrews) and the Faculty of Education, (Federal University of Minas Gerais) and several Indigenous and Quilombola communities, namely: Comunidade Quilombola de Pinhões (Quilombola Community of Pinhões), the Aldeia Indígena Pataxó Muã Mimatxi (Pataxó Indigenous Village Muã Mimatxi) and the Terra Indígena Xakriabá (Xakriabá Indigenous Land).

Brazil is an exemplary case where models of education have produced generations of indigenous students and teachers.

This is a challenge-led interdisciplinary and collaborative research activity that engages anthropologists, language experts, educationists and policy makers to co-capture and co-create new models for sustainable education.

It is funded by the Scottish Funding Council Official Development Assistance Global Challenges Research Fund (SFC ODA GCRF).
