KNOWLEDGE IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

TEHÊY – FISHING OF KNOWLEDGE / TEHÊY DE PESCARIA DE CONHECIMENTO

In the village Muã Mimatxi, located in the town of Itapecerica in the state of Minas Gerais, in Brazil, the Pataxoop practice what is called ‘fishing of knowledge’ (pescaria do conhecimento).

The knowledges, narratives and customs of the indigenous people of Minas Gerais are recorded in tehêysthat gives name, originally, to a fishing instrument, but also started to denominate a practice of writing and illustrating.

The illustration was made by Liça Pataxoop and the purpose of this tehêy is to share knowledge in time of pandemic (Valor: Partilha do conhecimento em tempo de pandemia).

 

A little about Liça Pataxoop: 

Liça Pataxoop is a teacher in the Muã Mimatxi village. She teaches the new generations through a methodology that includes their territory, music and images. Her tehêys represent not only knowledge, but the culture and ways of life of the Pataxoop People.
