Rory Cassie Awarded Estonian National Grant for 2025

Researcher and CMR Associate, Rory James Cassie, a PhD candidate in Social Anthropology, has been awarded the Estonian National Grant for Researchers and Academic Staff 2025. This prestigious and highly competitive scholarship is provided by the Estonian Education and Youth Board. The funding will enable him to spend this semester with the Cultural Institute of the University of Tartu from September 2025, working under the supervision of esteemed folklorist Dr. Elo-Hanna Seljamaa.
During his residency in Tartu, Rory will focus on completing his doctoral thesis, provisionally titled: Mapping the Postcolonial Landscape of Norwegian Sápmi through Sámi Responses to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Rory will also deliver a public lecture in November titled: “You Can Hold the Potatoes”: Trust as Relational Praxis Amongst Sámi Communities in Norwegian Sápmi.
