We’re delighted to welcome Cristóbal Mora Bieli-Bianchi to the Centre for Minorities Research.
Cristóbal works across social science and journalism. His PhD project explores the working and everyday lives of 19 rural journalists in Norway and Spain. He interviewed each of them in their own localities and spent time getting to know small rural communities that so often sit at the margins. Using a geographical lens, his research treats rurality as a minoritarian object of study within media studies. It asks what it really means to be a journalist far from the urban centre.
During his stay in St Andrews, Cristóbal will work with Rory Cassie on an article about local media coverage of climate conflicts in “sacrifice zones.” He will also connect with researchers across the University and build links to take back to Norway.
If your work touches on rural studies, local media, environmental conflict or minority representation, do get in touch with him while he’s here!
