In this video Débora Rodrigues shares with us a little bit about the situation at Pinhões during Covid-19. She focuses on how the community is dealing with the pandemic and helping each other to remain safe, as cases in Brazil have been sharply increasing since May.

The video was recorded a couple of months ago, so the data about confirmed cases in the city of Santa Luzia has changed to 904, as informed by the city’s official report updated on the 22 July 2020.

Pinhões is located in the city of Santa Luzia, in the outskirts of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a quilombola community formed during the 18th century by enslaved blacks sent by the nuns of the Macaúbas Monastery (Nossa Senhora da Conceição Convent) and the Bicas farm (owned by the family of Mr. Álvaro Diniz) to take care of the boundaries between the two important properties.

Neste vídeo, Débora Rodrigues compartilha um pouco da situação em Pinhões durante o Covid-19. Ela foca em como a comunidade tem lidado com a pandemia e tem se mantido segura, diante o aumento abrupto dos casos no Brasil, desde o mês de maio.

O vídeo foi gravado há alguns meses, então os dados sobre casos confirmados no município de Santa Luzia mudaram para 904, conforme o boletim informativo da Prefeitura do Município de Santa Luzia, atualizado no dia 22 de julho de 2020.

Pinhões está localizado no município de Santa Luzia, região metropolitana de Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brasil. É uma comunidade quilombola que se formou, no século XVIII, a partir da presença de negros escravizados enviados pelas freiras do Mosteiro de Macaúbas (Convento de Nossa Senhora da Conceição) e da fazenda de Bicas (propriedade da família do Sr. Álvaro Diniz) para tomarem conta da divisa entre as duas importantes propriedades.

Débora Rodrigues is a Master student in Education and Social Inclusion in the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Her line of research is in Education, Culture, Social Movements and Collective Actions. She works as an educator in the quilombola theme. Is a member of the Affirmative Actions Program at UFMG and a member of the teaching staff of the Improvement Course in Quilombola School Education.
